On Wednesday, 15 October 2025, the European Policy Ceramics Forum (EPCF) Breakfast Debate was held at the European Parliament in Brussels. The event, hosted by MEP Elisabetta Gualmini, Chair of the EPCF, gathered more than 45 participants, including Members of the European Parliament, and representatives of the European ceramic industry.
The debate, held under the theme “Powering Competitiveness: Tackling Energy and Decarbonisation Challenges in the European Ceramic Industry”, featured insightful interventions of MEP Elisabetta Gualmini, MEP Ondřej Krutílek, Andreas Guth (Secretary General of Eurogas), Alexandra Tudoroiu (COGEN EUROPE), and Raul Carnicer (Vice-President of the Federation of Ceramic Tiles Producers).
Following the publication of the Clean Industrial Deal in February 2025, and in the midst of its implementation, the EPCF Breakfast Debate marked a unique occasion to discuss how high energy costs and lack of adequate decarbonised energy sources and infrastructure are impacting the competitiveness of the European ceramic industry, an essential EU-based sector at the core of several strategic value chains. The discussion focused on providing solutions and ways forward, starting from existing policy frameworks as the EU ETS State Aid Guidelines and the Clean Industrial Deal State Aid Framework.
The EPCF has hosted multiple debates and high-level meetings on various subjects of key importance to the ceramic industry, including climate policy, energy transition, trade policy, decarbonisation and the role of electrification, circular economy, etc. Participants of this Forum are Members of the European Parliament, officials, and policymakers from national and EU authorities, high-level representatives of the ceramic industry, and European trade unions.
